Troca de emails sobre o lançamento do livro

Hey Richard, how's it going dude?

Here in Brasil things are nice, although in São Paulo it's spring but the weather is just like a proper London winter... go figure.

Sorry for the delay so far, but we just managed to meet with the publisher last week.

We have a deadline for your preface: the 30th of October. is that cool with you?

Also, later on, we would like to print an article about the book on Mais, a sunday suplement of Folha de São Paulo (one of the biggest newspapers in the country). This would happen around march, just before we get to the launch tour. What do you think?

And the launch, dear friend, is shaping up to be very nice. Don't book anything for April, we want you here for the whole month! Just so you have an idea, we are trying to get together with as many partners as we can and the initial plan is to have 3 different events:

1- University Seminar: a teacher will host a dialog with you, the public would be other teachers and students
2- Book stores: an interview with the author and autograph sessions afterwards
3- Party: a party with a class wargames performance and Djs

So far we want to try all these venues:

São Paulo Capital

- SESC: party with DJ Marky
local support: Danilo Oliveira

- Livraria Cultura: book store interview by Giselle Beiguelman
local support: Peirópolis

- USP: university seminar (we'll try the institute for advanced studies)
local support: Alexandre Freire

- USP Leste: university seminar at the Research Group For Public Policies for Access to Information
local support: Pablo Ortellado

- PUC-SP: university seminar at the PostGraduate Studies Program on Comunication and Semiotics
local support: Giselle Beiguelman, Rogério da Costa, Arlindo Machado

- Itaú Cultural: party
local support: filha do Chico dos Bonecos

- MIS (museum of image and sound): party
local support: Palm, Eric

- British Council: party
local support: Peirópolis

Campinas, SP

-Unicamp: university seminar at the Institue of Filosophy and Human Sciences
local support: Thiago Novaes

Belo Horizonte, MG

- Centro Cultural da UFMG: party
local support: Núcleo Transdisciplinar da UFMG and Imagem Comunitária

Porto Alegre, RS

-  ANTROPI: University Seminar
local support: Lea Fagundes

Brasília, DF

-Balaio Café, Asa Norte: party
local support: UnB, Rogério Basalli from the Filosophy department

Rio de Janeiro, RJ

- CEP 20.000: party with BNegão

Salvador, BA
party!
local support: Ricardo Ruiz

Recife, PE

- Livraria Cultura: party with Originais do Sample and Jecafofinho or booktstore event

During all of this we thought it would be nive to have a bi-lingual blog were you can talk about your travels and next book projects, you'll do the english posts and we'll translate them to portuguese..

Of course we don't think it will be possible to stablish partnerships with all the venues, but with all this planned we are sure to have a schedule for a whole month (with a couple of days for you to relax in the beach in rio, salvador, etc...)

This is all we have so far! What do you think?

lot's of love

Hiya,

We have decided on a launch date with the publisher, march 2009! Didn't we
teel you this? please excuse us.

Wonderful news. Let's book DJ Marky for the launch party!

hahaha, we can try, but you should know we are thinking more in terms of a
"launch tour" with many, many parties. são paulo, rio, salvador, recife,
maybe curitiba too....

Lots of parties sounds definately better than just one!

We are also in the proccess of writting a preface with a teacher from the
federal university in rio... would you like to write something especial to
introduce the brazilian translation??

No problems. Any suggestions as to how many words it should be and what you
want me to talk about?

I don't have a suggestion about length, no, But I did think of a topic...

What did you think of the olimpic games?

I was thinking more along the lines that my father was a friend of Walt Rostow who helped to organise the 1964 military coup in Brazil! I will think about what to say and then get back to you. Do you have a deadline for the introduction?

Also, don't make any travel plans for march next year because we have to
organize your book launching tour right?

I'm speaking at a conference organised by Armin and Ina in Vienna on
Tuesday 31st March 2009. Apart from this event, the rest of the month can be
your's...

Ok, maybe we can bring you down in april and tour for 3 weeks or so?

Yes, please. Could we fix the dates as soon as possible. If the tour coincides with teaching, I will have to arrange someone to cover for me so I can come over...

Ilze says that Class Wargames should put on a performance & exhibition in
SP or Rio so she can escape to the Southern sun during the saddest month of
the year in the North as well!

Yes! A Wargames performance is an excelente idea, let's tie this together!

Class Wargames is performing at the V&A in London and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg over the next couple of months. An appearance at the Modern Art Museum in SP would be a good addition to the list! I'll keep you updated with what's happening with this project. I should have finished the book which I'm writing on this subject by next spring too...

All the best.

Hiya,

how's it going dude?

Today, I gave the first lecture for my International Political Economy module which - as you might have guessed - was rammed with 2nd year students. How considerate of the global financial system to implode at this very moment. Check out the attached cartoon from the current Private Eye which sums up the ideological surreality of what's happening here in England...

Class Wargames has also just had confirmation that we've performing in the Hermitage museum in St Petersburg on Friday 29th November. Forward to Leningrad!!

We have a deadline for your preface: the 30th of October. is that cool with
you?

Okay. The beginning of the new academic year pressure should be over by next week and I'll get to work on it then.

Also, later on, we would like to print an article about the book on Mais, a
sunday suplement of Folha de São Paulo (one of the biggest newspapers in the
country). This would happen around march, just before we get to the launch
tour. What do you think?

Excellent idea. This paper published the Portuguese translation of 'Cyber-communism' so I definately approve of them.

And the launch, dear friend, is shaping up to be very nice. Don't book
anything for April, we want you here for the whole month!

I will warn my bosses that I will be disappearing for most of April to southern climes.

Just so you have
an idea, we are trying to get together with as many partners as we can and
the initial plan is to have 3 different events:

1- University Seminar: a teacher will host a dialog with you, the public
would be other teachers and students

If you'd like, I can talk about the book using the Flash presentation at the top of this page:

http://www.imaginaryfutures.net/book/presentations

2- Book stores: an interview with the author and autograph sessions
afterwards

!!!

3- Party: a party with a class wargames performance and Djs

We had a Class Wargames meeting last night and talked about our performances in Brazil. By April, we'll have all the ingredients of a gallery installation about Debord's 'The Game of War':

* a twice-size replica of the original board & pieces;

* Ilze's video explaining the game and its political message;

* Alex's scanner photos of us playing the game.

For the last, check out the weird images on the bottom of this page:

http://www.classwargames.net/pages/gallery.html

We thought it would be good to find a modern art institution in SP or Rio which would like to host this exhibition during April. We could perform the game at the launch and - if you want Class Wargames then to tour the rest of Brazil with me - take along another less bulky board & pieces for these events. Our replica is over 20 kilos in weight! What do you think about this proposal?

Our other idea was to put on a performance of another game while we're over in Brazil. For our gig in the Hermitage, we'll also be playing a Bolsheviks v. Socialist Revolutionaries & Mensheviks battle with toy soldiers, i.e. Reds v. Reds in the Russian Civil War. I've attached a jpeg of our first attempt at a public performance of this game and there's a brief description in Communique 3 on this page:

http://www.classwargames.net/pages/events.html

Similarly, when Class Wargames goes to Vienna in March next year, we're planning to combine our performance of Debord's 'The Game of War' with a recreation of the 1934 Uprising when the Social Democrats' militia fought against the Catholic fascists as a figurines game. Our subversive plot is refighting these proletarian struggles from the past, but, this time around, the good guys win!

After some wine and weed last night, we decided what we'd like to stage in Brazil is a guerrillas v. gorillas game with toy soldiers. If you could provide us with the historical details, we could recreate Carlos Marighella leading the Ação Libertadora Nacional into action against the Brazilian army and secret police in 1967-8. By performing both games in parallel, it would be a good way of making the political connection between what was going on in Europe and Latin America in this period. It might also amuse the 68ers who are now respectable PT politicians to play with toy soldiers of themselves as youthful revolutionaries!

So far we want to try all these venues:

*São Paulo Capital*

- SESC: party with DJ Marky

He's my Number 1 choice for the launch party as LK was one of the top tunes which I was playing when writing the book!

<snip>

I was gobsmacked when I read the rest of the list of potential events. Respect for thinking big about the book promotion tour.

During all of this we thought it would be nive to have a bi-lingual blog
were you can talk about your travels and next book projects, you'll do the
english posts and we'll translate them to portuguese..

We could also do a YouTube blog. As I said above, we've already started work on a Class Wargames video for gallery exhibitions which will grow into a film. I'm sure that Ilze would love to come on the tour if she can escape from work during April...

Of course we don't think it will be possible to stablish partnerships with
all the venues, but with all this planned we are sure to have a schedule for
a whole month (with a couple of days for you to relax in the beach in rio,
salvador, etc...)

I vote for a long weekend in Pipa - I show the attached jpeg from my last visit as an image of leftie utopia!
